CHARLESTON — A circuit court judge will soon decide what penalties Mount Pleasant attorney Barrett Brewer must face for improperly trying to gather information about South Carolina congresswoman Nancy Mace ahead of a potential lawsuit.

During an Oct. 10 hearing, Circuit Judge Thomas Rode spent less than 10 minutes hearing arguments from attorneys as he considered Brewer’s potential sanctions.

Rode offered no timeline on when he would make a decision, promising only that he would issue an order soon.

The courtroom drama is the latest twist in one of many legal battles involving Mace and the fallout from her February U.S. House floor speech in which she accused four men of being sexual predators.
