A mother died tragically in Lawrence Thursday night after a vehicle rolled backward and pinned her against another car as she tried to attend to her infant child, police said.

The woman was struck shortly before 11 p.m. on Currier Street, Lawrence police said in a statement posted to Facebook.

Authorities said she had parked her 2015 Honda CRV and “walked around it to tend to” her child when she became trapped.

“She tried to stop the vehicle when it began to roll backward and was pinned against another vehicle,” police said. “She was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was declared deceased.”

Neither the mother nor her child, who police said was uninjured, were identified by name.
