A draft Kitsap County code that will add more regulations to commercial equestrian facilities has driven heated discussion in recent planning meetings, with the necessity of such changes and transparency during the process questioned by equestrian facility owners and horse riders.
Many horse riders and horse facility owners from Kitsap County attended the Kitsap County Planning Commission meeting on Oct. 7, not the first time the equestrian community had gathered to discuss a controversial code change draft that was released in September. More than 10 people voiced their concerns at that meeting about the county's drafted zoning code equestrian center standards and regulations, done as part of its " Year of the Rural " comprehensive plan initiative.
