CHICAGO — A man is recovering in the hospital on Saturday morning after he was shot while leaving a gathering on the city's South Side overnight.

Chicago police say the incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West 59th Street, in Englewood.

According to officers, the victim, a 32-year-old man, was leaving a gathering in the area and was walking along the sidewalk when he heard gunshots and felt pain.

Police said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm that continued into his chest. He was later hospitalized in critical condition.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and authorities say no arrests have been made.

An investigation into the incident is now underway.
