A public recreational park is planned for the Cordova area.

Orangeburg County is planning to purchase about eight acres of land on Cannon Bridge Road for the park.

Council gave unanimous first reading approval to the purchase the property on Oct. 6.

The park will include a softball field, gazebo, walking trail, playground equipment, a basketball court and restrooms.

The county is still in negotiations about the transaction, Orangeburg County Administrator Harold Young said.

A park is deemed necessary to help support youth and to provide citizens a place for recreation, he said.

County off cials hope a design for the park will be ready by the first of the year, with construction to begin in the early part of 2026.

The park will be funded with capital project sales tax money.
