October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Berrien County Health Department is reminding women of the importance of regular screenings.

Clinical and Community Services Supervisor Dionne Rigozzi tells us breast cancer is very treatable when it’s detected early. That’s why the health department urges women to check themselves each month.

“ We have like a shower card that gives instructions on how to do a monthly self -check. We encourage folks to be consistent each day of the month doing their breast exam.

Rigozzi says family history is especially important to consider.
