The shop of horrors that Vancouver’s Metropolitan Performing Arts presents this month isn’t just “little.” It’s overcrowded, overbusy, overstuffed.

“It’s quite exciting to have so many kids benefiting from our classes and shows … but this growing community is now bursting at the seams,” said Kathleen Jung, vice president of Metropolitan Performing Arts’ board of directors.

“We really need to move from our current 6,000 to about 10,000 or 12,000 feet of space,” Jung said. “We are smooshed!”

Last year the nonprofit, nonreligious, sensory-friendly community theater, located in a remodeled storefront on East Mill Plain Boulevard, touched the lives of about 400 kids. That’s equivalent to the size of a local elementary school, Jung said.
