Schenectady and New York state are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal this month.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, a replica of the Seneca Chief, the historic packet boat that carried Gov. DeWitt Clinton on the initial 363-mile voyage from Buffalo to Albany back in 1825, will dock at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady. A welcoming ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., and the Seneca Chief will be turned into a living museum for public viewing between 4 and 6:30 p.m.
