The Capital Regional District is permanently extending hours at the Hartland Landfill and Public Drop-off Depot on Saturdays, following a year-long pilot program.

Closing time at the dump on Saturdays will now permanently be set at 5 p.m., instead of the previous 2 p.m.

In June 2024, the CRD launched a pilot program extending the Saturday operating time by three hours, with a goal of reducing peak congestion time, increasing recycling and diversion rates, and gathering feedback on the change.

Now, the CRD says the “public response to the pilot was overwhelmingly positive.”

“Many respondents noted that Saturdays were their only available day to visit the site, and the longer hours helped reduce wait times,” said the regional district in a release Friday.
