Mule deer hunt canceled.

Last week we reported that Colorado had suspended pronghorn hunts on two federal properties because of the government shutdown, which went into effect Oct. 1.

The state offered refunds to those who had purchased licenses for hunts at Fort Carson and Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site if they could submit refund applications in time.

Now, with the government shutdown dragging on, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has canceled the Oct. 11-19 mule deer muzzleloader hunt. Refunds will be offered beginning Oct. 19.

It was not known, when the pronghorn hunts were suspended, how long the shutdown would last.

CPW stated Thursday: “Other big-game hunting seasons may be considered [for cancelation] depending on the length of the shutdown."
