Bihar's political landscape is shifting as the upcoming assembly elections approach, with significant changes in party dynamics. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is poised to challenge the long-standing dominance of the Janata Dal (United) and its leader, Nitish Kumar. The RJD's Tejashwi Yadav is expected to contest from Raghopur, a seat historically held by his family, while Prashant Kishor, head of the Jan Suraaj party, has indicated he may also run from this constituency, creating a new rivalry.

Raghopur has been a stronghold for the Yadav community, crucial to the RJD's support base. Lalu Yadav won this seat in 1995 and 2000, followed by his wife Rabri Devi. Tejashwi Yadav has successfully held the seat since 2015. However, he is now considering a potential run from Phulparas to broaden his appeal among the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC), who make up a significant portion of Bihar's electorate.

Tejashwi's possible shift to Phulparas comes amid speculation about Kishor's intentions to contest against him in Raghopur. Kishor has stated, "If I take a plunge into electoral politics, I will fight elections against Tejashwi only," suggesting a direct confrontation could be on the horizon.

In a related development, the JD(U) has faced a setback as several senior leaders, including former MPs and MLAs, defected to the RJD. This includes the son of current JD(U) MP Girdhari Yadav, highlighting a significant split within Nitish Kumar's party. Tejashwi Yadav criticized the JD(U), claiming that the party is now controlled by BJP leaders in Delhi, stating, "Those who nurtured the JD(U) are no longer respected in the party."

The Election Commission has announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with results to be declared on November 14. The total number of voters registered stands at approximately 7.42 crore, following a recent update that removed around 65 lakh voters from the list. This election is crucial as it may redefine the political landscape of Bihar, especially with the emergence of new contenders and shifting loyalties among established leaders.
