During his visit to U.S. President Donald Trump’s White House last week, Prime Minister Mark Carney sounded exactly like he said Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre would sound had he won the federal election in April.
During that election, when Carney and the Liberals were in their now-abandoned “Elbows Up” mode, he warned Canadians that:
“Donald Trump thinks he can weaken us with his plan to divide and conquer. Pierre Poilievre’s plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered. Because a person who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.”
Carney’s genuflecting performance in the Oval Office seated beside Trump last Tuesday is an example of political necessity turning a politician – in this case, Carney – into the thing he once despised.
