SOUTHINGTON — In 1975, a group of 10 young men from Southington played basketball in the high school gymnasium for 60 hours straight, setting a world record and being included in the 1976 Guinness Book of World Records.
While they were not trying to set another record, the men and their families gathered this week for a 50-year reunion to remember that special event from October 1975.
Don Strock of Southington said the reunion was a great way to reminisce on the record-setting weekend.
In 1975, Jim Farmer and Bill Jackson got together and suggested doing something to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. They suggested playing basketball.
They learned the record was 54 hours, so they decided to play 60 hours to set a new record.
