LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. —
Immediate evacuations have been ordered for portions of La Plata County, Colorado, after heavy rains have led to flooding in the area.
A spokesperson for La Plata County says nearly 350 homes north of Vallecito Lake have been evacuated.
Banks along Vallecito Creek and Grimes Creek have been breached, which contributed to flooding in the area.
Road closures in the area include Tucker Lane, Mountain View Drive, Scenic Drive, West Vallecito Creek, Ponderosa Drive, Faith Lane and the area east of Vallecito Creek Drive.
Bayfield High School has been opened as a shelter location for people affected by the evacuation. The school is located at 800 Co Road 501 in Bayfield.
