GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On Oct. 4, a 17-year-old was fatally shot in Grand Rapids while at a memorial for another teen killed by gun violence.
One week later, a gathering was held downtown to call for an end to violence in the community.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Rosa Parks Circle was filled with people who participated in the sixth-annual Stop The Violence Keep The Peace Unity Walk and rally.
Speakers at Rosa Parks Circle included Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom, local pastors and people who have felt the effects of gun violence in the community firsthand.
There were photos set up of community members who lost their lives to gun violence, as well as resources tailored to "empower our youth" and raffles.
