Emergency response crews rescued a hiker who sustained an ankle injury while hiking on the Cumberland Trail at Signal Point Saturday morning.

Dispatchers sent the Signal Mountain Fire Department to the scene around 10:51am, according to the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management.

Crews responded and coordinated a rescue effort that took a little under three hours.

Rescue workers used 3 low-angle rope rescue systems spanning over 1,000 feet of difficult terrain nearly a mile into the woods.

HCOEM says they evacuated the patient using a stokes basket:
