The Moody Blues, a five-member band that formed in 1964 in the United Kingdom, just lost another one of their members.

John Lodge — singer, bassist and songwriter for the classic rock band — passed away Friday at the age of 82.

His family posted on the singer’s Facebook page announcing his passing. “John peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved-ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly,” the family said in the statement.

They said the rocker’s passing happened “suddenly and unexpectedly” but did not explicitly mention the cause of death.

Lodge joined The Moody Blues in 1966 alongside guitarist and vocalist Justin Hayward, replacing original bassist Clint Warwick.
