PITTSBURGH —

One person was taken to the hospital and multiple others were displaced after a fire tore through an apartment building in Banksville Saturday morning.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said just before 11 a.m., fire officials responded to a one-alarm fire in the 400 block of Mapleview Drive. Advertisement

Officials said the fire is believed to have started in the bedroom of an apartment, producing heavy smoke throughout the building.

Firefighters rescued a woman and a cat who were stuck inside the apartment unit. The woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Medics, according to officials, attempted to save the cat but were unsuccessful.
