MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -The Madison Fire Department is investigating a vacant house fire in the city’s downtown area.

Dane County Communications received multiple calls just after 11:30 p.m. about a house fire in the 100 block of N. Butler Street on Friday.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw flames blazing through the roof. Crews climbed their aerial ladders to put out the fire.

Officials say additional companies assisted with the aggravated fire and protected two houses next door.

Firefighters conducted searches within all three properties once the fire was contained. No one was hurt.

MFD stayed on scene to cool hot spots and to make sure the fire was out.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
