Greenwood Christian marched into the Midlands on Friday and rallied in the second half to defeat Thomas Sumter, 28-14, securing its first road region win.

Coming out of a bye week, coach Will Rooney’s squad showed renewed purpose, shaking off a 14-7 halftime deficit.

“I’m just really proud of our guys,” Rooney said. “Once again, they showed their mental toughness. They were able to come out and dominate the second half and take control of the game.”

The Hawks got an early score from Holden Poole. Poole carried 17 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

After a stretch of back-and-forth play, Thomas Sumter scored just before halftime.
