A hot dog spot that's been a part of downtown Montgomery for 108 years — and had loyal celebrity and government patrons throughout that time — will soon have a new owner.
The announcement came from Angia Katechis, wife of the late Theo Katechis, who passed in 2024. Theo's father Chris Katechis opened Chris' Famous Hotdogs, 138 Dexter Ave., in 1917 after immigrating to America from Greece.
"On October 17, I will lovingly pass Chris' into the hands of wonderful new owners — devoted caretakers who share our deep love for Montgomery and its rich traditions," she wrote, without naming who the new owners will be.
"Their family, too, has long-standing roots in this city, and they're committed to honoring the legacy that has made Chris' so special for over a century," Angia Katechis wrote.
