Aldi has issued an urgent "do not eat" warning for one of its own brand ice creams as the budget supermarket rushes to remove it from shelves.

The allergy alert states: " Aldi is recalling Gianni's Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream because it contains undeclared wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat (gluten)."

The affected product has a best-before date of August 14, 2027.

Aldi is urging shoppers who have purchased the ice cream and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten not to consume it, but to return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refun
