Liberal MP Andrew Hastie has sent an email to constituents signalling his contentment with stepping down from the frontbench, following weeks of internal party tension.
The correspondence comes amid ongoing speculation about a potential leadership challenge.
Mr Hastie has denied that he will mount an imminent leadership contest , but party sources have suggested that it will come some time in 2026.
Ahead of that, Mr Hastie wrote to his constituents to say he was pleased with the decision to quit the front bench, and foreshadowed his future presence in the party.
“This week has been a big one. Many people have had their say about my resignation from the front bench,” Mr Hastie wrote on Friday.
