Hearts legend Gary Mackay insists Derek McInnes is in the perfect position at Tynecastle - and reckons there’s real substance to the Jambos table-topping start. ‌

Mackay says fans are right to be excited by their flying start under the 54-year-old backed by the investment of Tony Bloom . ‌

McInnes had been heavily linked with Rangers as a replacement for axed Russell Martin. ‌

He reassured club chiefs that he is committed to what he’s started after leading Hearts clear after an unbeaten start and wins over Rangers and Hibs.

But Steven Gerrard has ruled himself out of a return to Ibrox. And Jambos record appearance holder Mackay is praying that an alternative appointment is made sharpish to end any lingering doubts over McInnes.
