BROADVIEW, Ill. (WGN) — A federal appeals court has temporarily blocked the deployment of the National Guard in Illinois, as protests continue outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing center in Broadview.

Demonstrators have been gathered near the facility since 9 a.m., chanting and booing at state and local law enforcement. The crowd has grown steadily throughout the afternoon.

On Saturday, the court ruled that while National Guard troops in Illinois can remain under federal control, they cannot be deployed. The pause is in effect for two weeks.
