(FOX40.COM) — As Saturday is the 10th day of the federal government shutdown, federal workers are facing layoffs and may face possible back pay.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said he supports the 248,000 federal workers in California and aims to provide important state protection and relief.

"We don’t treat public servants as pawns in some partisan fight. We honor work, we protect families, and we keep our government running so people can count on it when they need it most,” Newsom said.

In his statement, the governor called out President Donald Trump and his administration, blaming them for the federal government, which is causing unemployment among federal workers and delaying numerous government organizations.
