ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First/WVUE) - The last fugitive from a Louisiana jailbreak that captivated authorities and the public for months was captured in southwest Atlanta.
The owner of the home on Honeysuckle Lane where Derrick Groves, 28, was found allowed WVUE Reporter Gabby Killett to see the property’s ransacked basement. WVUE is Atlanta News First’s sister station in New Orleans.
The homeowner said investigators searched the area extensively after Groves was discovered there.
Law enforcement initially used tear gas in an attempt to smoke Groves out. It wasn’t until officers deployed K-9s that Groves emerged from a narrow crawl space where he had been hiding and surrendered.
