CORVALLIS— Former Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf had some choice words for Oregon State quarterback Maalik Murphy on Saturday.

With the Beavers trailing Wake Forest, 15-0, Murphy threw three straight incompletions leading to a punt. Leaf — a 1997 Heisman trophy finalist for the Cougars — ripped Murphy’s effort as an analyst on The CW’s broadcast.

“It’s just so flippant,” Leaf said of Murphy. “He has no one in his face yet he’s unwilling to step into the throw, just kind of comes off his back foot and that’s why the pass is inaccurate downfield.“

Leaf’s criticism continued, as he noted a season-long trend for Murphy.
