A pair of Germans stand first and second with one round to go at the SAS Championship, a PGA Tour Champions event being played at Prestonwood Country Club in North Carolina.
Alex Cejka holds a three-shot lead over fellow countryman Bernhard Langer. On a day where most players struggled, Cejka fired a 6-under 66 void of bogeys in the second of three rounds at Prestonwood.
Cejka started his round with four straight pars before making birdie on No. 5, eagle at the par-5 seventh and another birdie at the eighth. After eight consecutive pars, he capped off the stellar outing with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to put himself three strokes clear of the field.
But chasing him will be Langer, one of golf's living legends, who's in search of his first win this year. The 68-year-old from Anhausen, Germany, has at least one win in every season he's played since joining the PGA Tour Champions in 2007. A win Sunday would mark his 48th.
With just four events left on the schedule after this week, he's running out of time in 2025.
"I would love to have a win, but hey, life goes on whether I have one more or one less, and one more year or not. There's no extra pressure," Langer said Friday.
Langer didn't find success Saturday quite to the level of Cejka, who turned in the best score of the day by a long shot, but he still managed to card a 2-under 70 and put himself in solo second place with 18 holes remaining.
Charlie Wi sits in solo third at 4 under, one shot ahead of a three-way tie for fourth between Retief Goosen, Steven Alker and Robert Karlsson.
