BOICEVILLE, N.Y. — Onteora High’s eight-man football team has quietly moved up to No. 9 in this week’s state rankings put out by the New York State Sportswriters Association. But there was nothing quiet about the Eagles’ thrilling 32-30 come-from-behind non-league victory over Taconic Hills on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Onteora (5-0) rallied from a 30-18 hole late in the third quarter with 14 fourth-quarter points that had the partisan crowd roaring its approval and stomping its feet on the hometown heroes’ metal bleachers.
Things started to look a little better for Onteora when senior Chase Matteson completed a 52-yard, 10-play drive by scoring on a 15-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 30-24 on the first play of the fourth quarter. He covered 28 yards on four straight running plays to close
