Indiana's unbeaten start to the season continued on the road Saturday afternoon.
Coach Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers went into Eugene and knocked off the No. 3 Oregon Ducks with a two-score, 30-20 win that was almost certainly the biggest in program history. Indiana overcame quite a bit of in-game adversity, including a game-tying pick-six from Fernando Mendoza in the fourth quarter.
The Hoosiers' defense made some game-changing plays of its own, including a pair of interceptions from Ducks quarterback Dante Moore late in the game as Oregon was trying to mount its comeback. IU led for much of the game and snagged the lead for good after Mendoza found Elijah Sarratt for his only touchdown pass of the game with 6:27 to play.
After a Moore interception, the Hoosiers expanded their lead to two scores with a field goal, and Oregon didn't have time to overcome it.
Indiana made its presence known last year, earning its first 11-win season in program history and a shocking berth in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. This year's team, however, looks like it could be something even more special.
With Saturday's win, the Hoosiers cemented themselves as not just a Big Ten title contender — it appears they could be on a collision course with Ohio State for the Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis — but a legitimate national title contender, as well.
Cignetti wasn't lying in his introductory press conference when he said all he does is win.
