AUSTIN, Texas — An officer with the Austin Police Department has has been removed from patrol and placed on restricted duty following an incident on Sixth Street Friday night that was captured on video.
According to APD, the officer struck a person during a crowd control incident.
In a statement, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said she reviewed the footage and that an investigation is underway. Davis also said that APD will review camera footage and interview the officer involved, as well as interview witnesses who were at the scene.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson also released a statement on the incident Saturday night, referring to what happened as "inexcusable and indefensible."
“I have seen the video of an Austin Police Officer on 6th Street last night. The action is inexcusable and inde
