LEWISTOWN, N.Y. — A strong second period for Niagara in which the hosts tallied four goals resulted in a 5-2 loss for the Bowling Green State University hockey team Saturday.
The Falcons dropped the two-game season-opening series to the Purple Eagles, getting outscored 7-2 over both games.
Bowling Green scored its first goal of the season when Tyler Hotson put one in the back of the net 3:54 into the first period for a 1-0 lead. Connor Levis and Breck McKinley were credited with assists.
But then Niagara opened up the floodgates.
Niagara’s Noah Hackett’s even-strength goal tied the game at 1 just under two minutes into the second period. More than seven minutes later, Hunter Wallace scored to put the Purple Eagles ahead, 2-1.
