Cam Newton’s No. 2 jersey is officially retired joining Pat Sullivan’s No. 7, Bo Jackson’s No. 34 and Terry Beasley’s No. 88.
Newton was honored during the halftime mark of Auburn’s game against Georgia.
“I don’t want this story to be told about someone who came to a school to win a national championship. I want this story to be told about someone who was given a second chance,” Newton said to the media pregame.
The 2010 Heisman Trophy recipient led the Tigers to a 14-0 record and 2010 SEC and BCS National Championship. He finished the year with 2,854 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns.
He became the first player in SEC history to pass for more than 2,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season.
