AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Last Sunday, a 25-year-old man from Wayne County was killed in Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood. Tim Hutchinson was hit by a stray bullet after two people started shooting.
A memorial grows where the shooting occurred.
The City of Akron and police are refocusing efforts to keep this busy area safe, for the benefit of businesses, patrons and residents.
“Highland Square has never been like this before,” one resident said during a town hall meeting earlier this week. “I grew up here my whole life, you know, and I’ve never not felt safe, and I finally don’t feel safe.”
“We’re losing our lives to hate, we’re losing our lives to drugs, guns,” a local minister said during the meeting.
Highland Square residents are very concerned about safety, expressing their opinions
