A crowded race for New Orleans City Council's District A seat will go to a runoff after none of the five candidates got more than 50% of the vote Saturday, WWL Louisiana projects.

Voters will choose between Holly Friedman and Aimee McCarron — in a runoff election Nov. 15.

Whoever wins will take over the seat currently held by Councilmember Joe Giarrusso, who opted to exit the public sector at the end of his term. District A includes parts of Mid-City, Lakeview, Hollygrove and Uptown.

Friedman, 57, director of the OSINT intelligence team for District Attorney’s Office, campaigned on technology as the cure for improving city services.
