ROSELAND, La. (WAFB) - Nearly two months after the Smitty’s explosion, people living near and downstream from the Tangipahoa River are still questioning their safety as health concerns mount and official answers remain minimal.
“We’ve had no real answers from anybody except for everything is ok,” said Joe Brett, who owns a small subsistence farm that provides food to a handful of families just miles from where the explosion occurred.
Brett said he asked the EPA to conduct testing on his property, but was told the agency doesn’t test residential areas. The lack of official testing has left residents seeking answers elsewhere.
