A passenger has died after being arrested at a Melbourne train station.
The 63-year-old man was taken into custody at Merri railway station, in Northcote, about 9.45pm on Friday.
The man, who police said appeared drug-affected, had been riding Mernda line when another commuter flagged down police.
Protective Service Officers — early career police officers who are responsible for community safety on public transport — exited the train with the 63-year-old when he got off at Merri railway station.
The man “continued to behave erratically on the railway platform,” Victoria Police said.
Police called an ambulance for the man.
They then put him in handcuffs due to “increasing erratic behaviour”, police said.
