Frontier Airlines’ new service from Charleston has taken flight, carrying passengers deep into the heart of Texas.

The budget carrier launched its previously announced twice weekly route Oct. 9 linking South Carolina’s busiest airport with Dallas-Fort Worth International .

Fares start as low as $49 one way, according to the airline, down from $59 when the service was announced earlier this year.

Frontier is treading onto the home turf of American Airlines , which is headquartered in Dallas-Fort Worth and until now was the only other carrier to offer a nonstop between DFW and Charleston International .

Southwest Airlines offers seasonal service to the Texas metropolis’ other major airport at Love Field .
