The Citadel had not scored a single point in its first two home games at Johnson Hagood Stadium this season.

It took The Citadel just one offensive snap to end the scoring drought when running back Garrison Johnson scored from 6 yards out — one of his three touchdowns on the afternoon — in the Bulldogs’ 38-14 win over Division II powerhouse Valdosta State.

A sigh of relief spread across the rain-soaked crowd of 8,693 at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

“That’s been a long time coming — too long,” The Citadel coach Maurice Drayton said afterward.
