NORTH CHARLESTON — The Halloween season is gearing up and a hit costume is already flying off shelves — but this year’s prices may spook some shoppers.

Spirit Halloween, which pops up in empty shopping strip malls for the season, has opened in North Charleston on Centre Pointe Drive, tucked behind the Paul Mitchell cosmetology and beauty school.

Aisles are filled with bagged costumes, accessories, décor and giant-sized animatronics.

Yet, the Trump administration’s yo-yo-ing tariffs on the Chinese-made costumes has caused a significant increase in prices for the the largest seasonal Halloween retailer in North America. Adult bagged costumes cost between $40 to $60.
