Regarding the guest editorial from the Baltimore Sun, “Punish politicians who lie?” (Sept. 25 print edition): If such an edict were put into effect, no doubt there wouldn’t ever be such a man or a woman who went into politics who could call himself or herself a politician.

All politicians lie, and quite frankly, are all aware that they are doing it. It’s part of the fabric that makes them who they are. They figure if they repeat their lies often enough, people will tend to believe them.

Take one of the biggest liars of all time: President Donald J. Trump. Mud-slinging is the name of the game, and millions of voters hear what they want to hear and fall victim to vicious and corrupt falsehoods without ever giving any thought of checking out or verifying the true facts.
