Smriti Mandhana created history on Sunday, October 12, as she became the first player in women's ODI history to score 1000 runs in a calendar year. Mandhana, who started the day on 982 runs from 17 matches, started off with a boundary off Kim Garth on the last ball of the first over to get going.

The tournament hadn't been a great one for the Indian opener so far, as she has struggled to get into rhythm and got 54 runs from the first three games. Mandhana scored 8 off 10 balls against Sri Lanka, 23 off 32 against Pakistan. Against South Africa, she looked to be finally getting into her groove but threw away her wicket in the end and got out for 23 off 32 balls.
