A snarled, hectic knot that caused clashes between bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists for decades on the most heavily used greenway in the United States has been untangled.
Cyclists on the Hudson River Greenway near West 54th Street now travel under an overpass to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, bypassing traffic to the cruise ships. The area had long been a bottleneck of cyclists, joggers and vehicles dropping and picking up cruisers. It is finally fixed as part of a $350 million project to build new film and tv studios on Pier 94.
Cyclist Mike Derewianik, 63, said the stretch of the greenway had been a source of aggravation for decades.
“It was a mess. There was no rhyme — it was no good.” said Derewianik, who was headed south on the greenway after crossing the George Washington B
