MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Commissioner Britney Thornton is hosting the second annual “Hoop 2 Be Heard” basketball tournament Oct. 14–18, 2025, at five community centers across District 10.

The weeklong event aims to empower youth and celebrate Memphis culture through competitive five-on-five basketball. Players on the championship team will each receive a $1,000 prize.

“Hoop 2 Be Heard is more than a tournament — it’s a movement,” Thornton said. “We’re using the power of basketball to remind our young adults that their voices, communities, and futures matter.”

Games will be held at Pine Hill, Bethel LaBelle, Glenview, Whitehaven, and Orange Mound community centers, with teams competing in ladder-style matchups leading to the final game.
