Seriously, ouch.

New Jersey has approved auto insurance rate hikes for 69 of the state’s 77 carriers so far this year.

The biggest? It went to Vault Reciprocal Exchange, a company that bills itself as an insurer for “affluent individuals and families.” It requested a 38.9% rate hike and was granted a 30% boost, according to data from the state Department of Banking and Insurance.

Farmers Casualty Insurance asked for the highest hike at 40%. It received the second-highest approval at 28.3%.

Next in line was Liberty Mutual, which requested and received a 26.2% increase.

None of the companies responded to requests for comment.
