SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. — Authorities say four people are dead and several are hurt following a shooting at a restaurant in South Carolina's Lowcountry early Sunday morning.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said the county communications center received multiple reports around 1 a.m. of a shooting at Willie's Bar and Grill at 7 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on St. Helena Island.

The sheriff's office said that arriving deputies found a large crowd of people, several of whom had been shot. Investigators determined that a crowd of hundreds began running to neighboring businesses as the gunfire occurred.
