A Taunton man has died after suffering a “crushing injury” while at work at Mid City Scrap in Westport.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, at 11:10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, Westport EMS responded to a medical call at the 548 State Road scrap yard.

First responders found Mark Peters, 49, of Taunton suffering from a crushing injury to his lower extremities, the DA’s office said.

Peters was hospitalized, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Westport police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the DA’s office and a Safety and Health Officer from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene.

The DA’s office said the incident is being investigated but does not appear to be suspicious.
