Applications for next year's harvest of goliath groupers in Florida waters will close in a few days, states the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

The FWC sends a reminder that the applications for the 2026 limited harvest season of goliath groupers in state waters will close on Oct. 15.

A news release states that the cost to apply is $10, plus fees, and an applicant will be entered into a random draw lottery to potentially win a permit for the seasonal harvest.

If you are drawn from the lottery and are a Florida resident, you will automatically be charged $150, plus fees, from the same card used to enter the lottery, and be given a permit and a tag.

However, for non-Florida residents, the cost rises to $500, plus fees.
