SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- In 2009, the pastor at Harvest Church in Sioux Falls realized that many kids in the community didn't have coats when his son came home without his own coat- twice.
"Gave away his coat to a friend, and then he did it more than once," said Teresa Blauwet, the coordinator for Kidz-n-Coats. "And so, they realized this need in the schools, that there was kids in South Dakota in the middle of winter who didn't have a coat yet."
That year, they shopped locally and gave coats away at his school. Every year since then, the event has grown. This year, they are giving away 1,500 coats.
"This is our biggest turnout, as many as coats that we've gotten. Part of it is, we've also done it on a Saturday this year. So, this is the first time we've done on a Saturday. Usually i
